To know whether a fuel isp roper fuel or not is to determine whether the fuel gives off greater amount of energy when it is used than the energy involved in making the fuel from raw natural materials.
A huge amount of energy is obtained when Hydrogen or thermite (a mixture of powdered Aluminium and oxide of iron) is burned.
But energy obtained from combustion of those fuels is not greater than the energy spent to make them from natural resources.
Therefore, Hydrogen and thermite cannot be treated as proper fuels.
Electricity could be readily generated from combustion of those fuels, but, electricity made from those fuels must be more expensive than electricity made from coal or petroleum.
According to Einstein’s  E=mcˆ2  formula, 1Kg of any material (preferably Uranium) will give 9×10ˆ16  joules, or  2×10ˆ16  calories, of  heat energy through complete nuclear reaction.
[E = mcˆ2 = 1 x (3 x 10ˆ8)ˆ2 joules = 20 x 10ˆ12 kilocals = 20 trillion kilocals]
If that would be true, then powerful states around the world would not compete for oil in the deserts of Arabia.
If one ton of Uranium of someton ‘Little Boy’ bomb could take part in the so-called nuclear reaction, then some million of square miles of the world would burn, instead of only 1.7 square miles of Hiroshima.
It not at all possible to give supply of electricity to the people from so-called nuclear fuels at a cost lower than fossil-fuel electricity for the reasons stated above.
However, it is possible to give ontological lectures on nuclear fission/fusion or to earn immense money from so-called nuclear projects.

    Are we, therefore, to understand that you have delivered several (more than 3?) Warm eCats to a single military customer?

    As I said and wrote many times, the Container of the 1 MW plant is the same tested one year ago, since to the military Customer we delivered different ones. This one, seen also in the Swedish Television, has been used to make tests, modifications, improvements, certification. It has been a tremendous tool for R&D. Now it is destined to a Customer. It will be delivered on March, after further series of modifications we have in course now. Thanks to it now we can pass to a repetitive manufacturing line. After a glorious first life as a prototype for R&D, it is on his way to go to work in a centralized heating plant to supply heat: this will be his seconf life.

    Mr. Rossi, I’ve been in a never ending back and forth with individuals about your 1MW container. Many of those who argue say that the container for your first unit has the same dents and floor scrapings as the one shown in the recent swedish video. Is the original 1MW unit the same one in the video or is this a new unit with coincidentally similar markings? I’m sure you know how these internet arguments can go and I’d like to having something backing what I post in response to them. Thank you, ScottL

    Why not prove the process works, i.e. “does something exothermic” in a different way than trying to make a controlled reactor?

    I figure if you can prove it works to the Navy’s liking, you could get funding from them. Here is my idea.

    Back when you first went public with this discovery, you mentioned that some of the early tests were unstable and exploded.

    Why not get the U.S. Military to allow you to use a bomb range to demonstrate an over-load explosion, to prove that it works? They can even inspect the system to their liking before hand.

    You could build a large reactor and let it go critical and explode. Upon seeing the explosion, the scientists would then be able to judge the energy level and would be forced to admit the reaction actually works.

    Then they would be more likely to help with funding to perfect the systems.

    You are touching a very important point: during these very days, and also during the more recent tests, we are working on this issue. I think we will be able to produce directly e.m.f. , but much work has to be done. Actually, we already produced direct e.m.f. with the reactors at high temperature, and we measured it with the very precise measurement instrumentation introduced by the third party expert, but we are not ready for an industrial production, while we are at a high level of industrialization for the production of heat and, at this point , also of high temperature steam, which is the gate to the Carnot Cycle.     Dr. Rossi: Electricity directly from heat seems to be a much more “natural” way to make electricity, compared to the Carnot Cycle. Your hot cat seems like the perfect heat machine. Are you making any progress in circumventing the Carnot Cycle to make the “PowerCat”? Thanks, and Happy New Year!

    As of 2 weeks ago, a co-founder of Paypal and angel investor for Facebook, Peter Thiel, has provided seed funding for the Atmospheric Vortex Engine via his “Breakout Labs” foundation:

    Although the minimum scale for such waste-heat conversion to electricity is likely to be near 1GW and the safe location of such atmospheric vortex engines are likely to be remote from population centers, it does represent a possible way to boost the electrical generating efficiency of the HotCat quite substantially, as well as offering a way to economically convert the lower temperature E-Cat’s thermal energy to electricity under those limited circumstances.

    1. Does Leonardo or your new partner also do research on a device one could call “Wet-Cat” (LENR reactions with ordinary tab water)

    2. In a previous comment you were asked if your research with other materials than Nickel.
    Iridium has a much higher melting point. Although it is much more scarce could this be a potential improvement in terms of heat production to Nickel.

    3. Do you do research on alloys with potentially even higher melting points?

    4. If question 2 is true, this means that any element could be transmuted to another via LENR reactions? (even if it is only a side product) If yes, maybe future geneneration will not only see you as the father of LENR technology, but also as the father of a very old dream come true: turning ordinary metals into gold.

    2. For those metals with positive results, were the same or different catalysts required?

    We are a very strong team and very well organized. Obviously we have learnt from Universities with which we made (and make) R&D. Between the E-Cat as it was 3 years ago and the E-Cat as it is today there are strong differences, and this evolution comes from the work not only of Leonardo’s employees, but also of all the University Professors we worked with and all the Consultants we ask the help of for specific issues. From November 2012 we also are teaming with the new Partners of the USA, and the evolution is growing exponentially, for many reasons.

    If three 1 MW Hot-Cats (A, B and C) are operated together, and each needs an average input drive of 100 kW-electric and a COP of 10 ( as in the Swedish Television SVT video) and if ( at 600 Celsius) there is a Thermal-to-Electric conversion efficiency of 0.4 (40%), the electrical output would be 3*100 kW-e*0.4 = 1.2 MW-e. That’s a lot of ifs. But System A produces more than enough electricity, i.e., (400 kW-e) for System B and C. And likewise System B produces more than enough electricity for C and A. And C for A and B. That is just one idea. Once there is a net electricity surplus, the market will decide.
